There’s an excellent article in the LA Times (March 6, 2010) about the Iliad Bookshop. Written by Ann M. Simmons (who came by and soaked up the atmosphere and history of our store), the article is a welcome relief from the Times tendency to feature stories of major bookstore closings.
We’d like to thank Ann and the Times for writing such a good article and for focusing on bookstore success stories. And, of course, thanks to all of our customers for helping make Iliad the growing and successful used bookstore that it is.
And isn’t that picture of Zola on the front page of the article cool?

We just bought an amazing collection of books on military history and Napoleon, so I’ve added a “History” section to the books for sale on our website. These Napoleon books are absolutely stunning. If you have any interest in Napoleonic history, please take a look! Thanks.

We’ve just added a bunch of great titles to the Vintage Paperbacks selection in the website. Look for early Michael Crichton novels (under the pseudonym “John Lange”), some Gold Medals, and a couple of ’60s era superhero parodies!

We just added a few new items to the Iliad shopping cart, including a perfect hardback first edition of Richard Laymon’s MADMAN STAN AND OTHER STORIES, a few vintage paperbacks like a true first of Theodore Sturgeon’s THE COSMIC RAPE, and a copy of the scarce limited edition of Jack Ketchum’s THE DUST OF HEAVEN, signed by both Ketchum and Edward Lee.

Last year I read ANIMAL FARM for the first time (no, I don’t know how I missed it in school either!) and loved it. Then today we got this in: A first American edition of the book in original jacket. I’m kinda floored by this…and sorely tempted to buy it myself. Hopefully someone will remove the source of temptation soon…!
