This is the third state of the first American edition, with a tipped-in title page that does not include the illustrator; previous owner (whose inscription is on front pastedown) was famed mathematician and education John Howard Van Amringe (this copy was apparently a gift to his wife, Cornelia Bucknor); some sunning and wear to binding on spine, light staining to front and rear boards, initials CBVA are written on front board and first page of text, corners bumped, binding is just starting to crack
