Signed by Author. This is the second state binding (cream-colored cloth stamped in black only) of the first edition; the book is inscribed on the front free endpaper as follows: ‘Dear Mr. Elias [sp?] – In memory of your kind Christmas greetings of 1910. Sincerely yours, Jack London/ Glen Ellen, Calif., Jan. 1, 1911. Happy new year.’ The binding is lightly stained on the front and back boards; the corners are slightly bumped and fraying; cloth is splitting 1-inch at spine bottom; 1-inch tear on plate which precedes page 37; binding cracking, but all pages/plates are present and tight. A good copy of a scarce title, with a lovely inscription.
